My love of Pizza began as far back
as I can remember. During the 1960’s, my parents Kitty & Peter,
would pack 5 kids into the station wagon and drive from Forest
Hills Queens down Woodhaven Blvd into Howard Beach for our
Friday night pizza tradition, we would go to Pizza City.
The entire way we would sing the Pizza Pie City song. (This must
have driven our parents crazy!) Pizza City had the best Sicilian
Slice on the planet!
Then in the 70’s I could remember going to Mike’s Pizza on
Yellowstone Blvd for their Grand Opening Special. A slice & a
coke for a whopping .25 cents!!
During my H.S. years, I would sneak out of school and go to
Grand Central Station to get a slice hoping not to get caught by
the faculty!
Growing up in New York City, Pizza was a way of life. It was
always something we could grab on the go or order a pie before a
movie and make a night out of it.
There were so many great family owned Pizzeria’s each with their
own special quality.
In 1992 a lifelong friend, Ron & his then girlfriend Janice,
packed up the moving truck and headed west from Forest Hills,
Queens to Denver, CO. I would visit Ron & Janice frequently
throughout the next 8 years and soon fell in love with the
wonderful climate and great lifestyle Colorado had to offer.
Upon many of my trips I needed to fill my pizza fix and Ron
would bring me around town to try the local pizza and it just
wasn’t the same.
And so begins my endeavor in the Pizza business.
In 2000 I packed up my Jeep, turned on the radio and drove west
to Arvada, Colorado for a much needed change and with the hopes
of bringing NY style pizza with me.
I started out working at Big Bill’s NY Pizza in Highlands Ranch
with Big Bill & Peter. The experience and friendships made it an
easy transition. I cannot thank them enough!!
In 2002 my soon to be wife Siobhan & I opened a pizzeria in Ken
Caryl, CO. Soon after, we brought the 1st pizzeria to Roxborough,
CO. (Thank you, Fish!)
In 2004 Johnny’s NY Pizza was born in Lakewood, CO & 5 days
later so was our first son!!
After 8 years of experimenting, many long hours behind the oven
and with the help of countless great employees, we are ready to
bring to downtown Denver a new and exciting pizza experience- MY
PIZZA PEEL!
Bringing a love for family memories and a passion for great
pizza for future generations!!
